Love and mercy - these two virtues are a red line through the entire life of the family of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II. The Emperor, his wife and their children not only kept among themselves a special love and touching care, but also turned them to works of mercy. Thus, the tsar's children were active participants in the The Empress and the senior Grand Duchesses graduated from a special course for tuberculosis patients called "White Flower" and organized various charitable events.
With the outbreak of the First World War, the Empress and the senior Grand Duchesses graduated from special courses for sisters of mercy and served in infirmaries and hospitals throughout the war. The Tsarskoye Selo hospital was re-equipped to receive the wounded. Alexandra Feodorovna together with her elder daughters Olga and Tatiana assisted in operations, performing all the duties of nurses. They tried to ease the pain and suffering of the wounded to the best of their abilities, not disdaining the hardest and dirtiest work.
Princesses Maria and Anastasia could not yet become sisters of mercy, but they helped the wounded: sewed linen for the soldiers, prepared bandages, read aloud to them and played games. In the hospital came and young Tsesarevich Alexei, who loved to communicate with the wounded heroes. Emperor Nicholas II himself tried as often as possible to visit the wounded in hospitals. He personally handed them awards for bravery, with participation asked them about their exploits.
The exhibition tells about this beautiful page of Russian history.
