On June 18, 2024, under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk of the Russian Orthodox Church's Publishing Council, a round table on artificial intelligence and bioethics was held in a face-to-face remote format.

The event was opened by Metropolitan Kliment, who noted: «The most rapidly developing branches of science and technology contain the greatest number of moral issues and forks. These branches undoubtedly include the sphere of biomedical research and genetics, as well as artificial intelligence. The desire to take experiments beyond any ethical regulation, to achieve results as quickly as possible at any cost, makes us observe the unfolding of research issues with particular attention.
The roundtable was moderated by Protopriest Alexander Abramov.
Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.M. Kudryavtsev made a presentation on the ethical challenges of high technology: genetics. He touched upon the problems of using genetic technologies in biomedicine, agriculture and industry, and also touched upon issues related to biosafety.
A.O. Gurdus, Advisor to the Director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems of the Federal Research Center «Informatics and Management» presented the report «Artificial Intelligence: the state of the problem and moral issues». He familiarized the audience with the basic principles of neural networks, noted the risks of using artificial intelligence associated with the human factor.
Priest Vladimir Dukhovich, a member of the Ethical Committee of the Federal Scientific-Clinical Center of Physico-Chemical Medicine of FMBA of Russia, made a presentation «Aging and transhumanism». He focused on the key directions of development of longevity medicine; touched upon the topics of genome editing, euthanasia, «digital immortality».
The reports were accompanied by questions and discussion.
Concluding the event, Metropolitan Kliment thanked all participants for the work done and the exchange of views.
