On December 31, 2023, at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Tawadros II of the Coptic Church, a representative of the monasticism of the Coptic Church arrived in Russia - a resident of the Monastery of St. Macarius the Great in the Nitria Desert, Monk Zeus el-Makari.
At Domodedovo International Airport, the guest was met by the representative of the Coptic Church in Russia, Hieromonk Daoud el-Anthony, an employee of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, S.G. Alferov, and representatives of the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism, nun Sevastiana (Aljanova) and nun Ekaterina (Vorobyeva), residents of the Marfo-Mariana Cloister of Mercy.
On the same day, Father Zeus arrived at the St. John the Theologian Monastery of the Ryazan Metropolis, where he will reside for the next few months to study the monastic experience of the Russian Orthodox Church.
This project is being implemented as part of the activities of the Commission for Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Coptic Church.
