On January 18, 2024, on Epiphany Eve, the head of the Russian Theological Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev) took part in the consecration of water at the site of the Baptism of the Lord on the Jordan River, which was performed by Patriarch Theophilus of Jerusalem, according to the RDM website.
In the morning of the day, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos prayed at the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Equal Apostles Constantine and Helen in the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Primate of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church performed the rite of the Great Consecration of Water and departed for the Jordan River.
Here Patriarch Theophilos led the festive procession of the clergy of the Jerusalem Church and pilgrims from the Monastery of St. John the Baptist, known as "Qasr el-Yahud", to the place of the Baptism of the Lord. The Primate of the Church of Jerusalem entered the boat and immersed the cross three times into the Jordanian waters while singing the troparion "In the Jordan I baptize Thee, O Lord".
After the service, Patriarch Theophilos, the hierarchs of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church and the guests of honor were received by the Abbot of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist, Archimandrite Bartholomew (Jerusalem Patriarchate).
