From June 9 to 11, 2024, the All-Russian Cossack Society (VsKO) and the Rospatriot program of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs held in St. Petersburg a training seminar on strengthening traditional family values and preserving historical memory for young Cossacks, which was attended by representatives of 18 regions of Russia. The event was held in preparation for the All-Russian Forum (gathering) of Cossack youth, which will be held in Pyatigorsk in September this year.

One of the invited experts was the head of the press service of the Synodal Committee for Cooperation with the Cossacks, the clergyman of the Union of Cossack Youth of Russia, Priest Tikhon Lazutkin.

The priest believes that the family occupies an important place in the life of every person. Especially in the Cossack culture, where from ancient times the foundations of a strong family with many children were laid: «Modern society is increasingly questioning the traditional understanding of family. More and more often, substituting concepts, people are propagandized to abandon family and children in favor of personal selfish aspirations. By replacing eternal values with temporary ones, people have every chance to end up with nothing.

The seminar paid special attention to traditional spiritual and moral values and Orthodox faith. «There is a pronounced demand among Cossack youth to create a strong family. We approached this issue from several angles: studying their past through genealogy, talking about Orthodox values and attending Liturgy in the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg, communicating with parents with many children, atamans of Cossack communities and compiling a value model of Cossack youth» — stated Igor Kochubeyev, deputy ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Youth Union and chairman of the Cossack Youth Union of Russia.

Participants in the seminar discussed a wide range of topics related to Cossack daily life. They also learned how to work with archival materials, create a genealogical tree and overcome family problems taking into account the peculiarities of the Cossacks. The seminar concluded with a presentation of the group's work.
