From November 13 to 21, 2024, the A.I. Meshcheryakov Family Center in Sergiev Posad with the support of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra Svyato-Trinity Sergius Lavra will hold events for the children of the center, dedicated to the International Day of the Blind.
The family center opened on October 8, 2024. It is the only such institution in Russia. The center was built next to the Sergiev Posad boarding home, where children from 3 to 18 years old with complete or partial loss of sight and hearing are brought up. The construction of the new building was carried out by the Government of the Moscow Region. In addition to residential buildings and workshops, the center has a medical block, library, swimming pool, sports and assembly halls. The territory was comprehensively landscaped, barrier-free environment and public spaces of the courtyard were created taking into account the peculiarities of the center's wards. The Trinity Sergius Lavra actively contributed to the realization of this project.
The residents of the Family Center receive education, useful practical skills and in-demand professions. Training is conducted in 12 specialties, including such specialties as seamstress, weaver, kitchen worker, carpenter, master of digital information processing, makers of candles, soap, ceramic artwork. The institution has established special workshops for vocational training.
On the occasion of the International Day of the Blind, the center began to hold special events for children, which will last until November 21. Thus, on November 14, within the framework of cooperation with the Lavra, a culinary master class «Monastery cuisine» was held by cook Oleg Olkhov. He taught the children how to cook simple dishes according to the recipes of healthy cuisine. This event was attended by 65 people.
The planned events will also include music and poetry meetings, a sports festival, educational seminars, festive events and conversations with people of interest to children.
