On August 19, 2024, on the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Cathedral of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women in Baku.
The visit of the presidents took place within the framework of the state visit of the President of Russia to Azerbaijan.
Alexy, Bishop of Baku and Azerbaijan and the clergy of the Bakin Eparchy welcomed the heads of state at the Cathedral.
The heads of state were greeted by Bishop Alexy and the clergy of the Bakin Eparchy.
Bishop Alexy told the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan about the history of the church and its restoration, and expressed deep gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the attention shown by the Azerbaijani state to the needs of the country's Orthodox community.
The President of Azerbaijan presented a handmade decorative silver tray and a new printed publication dedicated to the Orthodox churches of Baku. The Russian leader presented an icon of the Transfiguration of the Lord to the cathedral.

The Church of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women in Baku, founded in the early XX century, is the cathedral of the Baku diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Churches. In 2003, the cathedral was inaugurated after renovation and President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev took part in the event.
