At a ceremony held on December 21, 2023 at the Library of the Serbian Society of the Blind, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the Serbian Association of the Blind for supporting this association, which unites more than twelve thousand blind and visually impaired people in our country.
After receiving the recognition from the President of the Association of the Blind of Serbia, Mr. Milan Stosic, His Holiness noted that the awards presented were first of all "an expression of love for our Church, and then an expression of respect for my smallness."
each other's love, and that if anything was good in the Church's relationship with the Serbian Association of the Blind, it was primarily God's work, not ours.
- We have a duty to love, and when we fulfill this duty, then God is among us," the Saint explained and emphasized that regardless of our physiological assumptions, abilities and capacities, regardless of our physical abilities, when we talk about what is the most important and essential organ of every human being, we must emphasize the word love. - Love is the organ, the method and the way that offers us knowledge, that leads us to knowledge. Those who are deprived of love or who have a deficit of love are simply deprived of the possibility of coming to true insights and knowledge by the any topic," explained Patriarch Porfiry.
His Holiness noted that in pleasant and friendly meetings with people from the alliance, he met those who have incomparably broader, loftier and deeper understanding of the essence, even than people who have the ability of external vision, precisely because the main organ of vision is love for the other, and not only physiological vision. In conclusion, the Patriarch blessed all the efforts and labor of the people from the Association of the Blind of Serbia, fatherly reminding them that seeing is the most important and essential thing - to see with the heart, to see with love, "because it is the compass that will provide us with a safe path and allow us never and nowhere to lose our way."
