Today, Monday, February 5, the Church honors the memory of the Holy Martyr Agatha the Theotokos, the New Martyr Anthony of Athens, St. Polybektus, Patriarch of Konpolis, and St. Theodosios of Skopelos.
St. Agatha came from Palermo in Sicily and lived during the reign of Emperor Decius (249-251 AD ). She stood out for her natural beauty, her great faith in Christ the Bridegroom, her morality, and her fighting spirit for the virtues. When the prefect Cydianos learned that she was a Christian and struggled to maintain a firm devotion to the Savior Christ in her life, he wanted to convert her to idolatry, so he gave her to an unbelieving woman to persuade her to renounce Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.
However, St. Agatha not only did not renounce her faith in the Risen Christ, but with greater energy decided to witness to it. Thus, she bore all the tortures with amazing steadfastness, praising God who deserved that she should remain steadfast to the end and accept by her heroic death the crown of martyrdom.
" Agathi we grow up, nymph of Christ you perfect, God beautiful and martyr blessed, the memory of those who believe in you honor adorn, and your holy memory, slenderly fulfilled, the resolution of sins find" . (Esapostelarion of St. Agatha. Ἦhos 2. Ladies listen)
.
St. Polypectus the Younger was born in Constantinople and from an early age devoted himself to the ascetic life, obeying the command of the Holy Gospel to all who wish to depart from worldly concerns for the sake of perfect union with Jesus Christ.

Polyeuctus was the possessor of a great theological education and was characterized by modesty, morality, restraint and integrity of character.
