On August 7, the Orthodox Church celebrates the event of the Dormition of the Righteous Anna, mother of the Mother of God. The saint is the patroness of the church in Międzylesie, located in the Terespolskie district of the Lublin-Chelm diocese. It is an exceptionally special feast and place for local dioceses. Międzylesie is the first village to rebuild a parish church after the tragic events of the revival of Orthodox churches in these parts. On the feast day local believers and residents of neighboring parishes gathered in Międzylesie to glorify the saint and honor God in unity and prayer.
The parish celebrations began on the eve of the feast, August 6, with an all-night vigil. The service was led by Archimandrite Peter, vicar of the St. Onuphrius the Great Stavropegial Monastery in Yablochne.
On the feast of St. John the Baptist, the Liturgy was led by Archbishop Abel, ordinariate of the Diocese of Lublin-Chelm, assisted by diocesan clergy and guests of the Warsaw-Bielski Diocese.
The sermon was delivered by His Excellency Archbishop Abel, who, from a Christian perspective, drew attention to the controversy surrounding the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris. The saint emphasized that Orthodox believers are called to be a light to the world, steadfast in their faith and imitating their ancestors, who in the lands of Chelmsk and Podlasie carried the complete of suffering, but now a triumphant cross. Because of their steadfast faith, we are able to offer prayers in this sacred place. "There is no better lesson for dealing with today's challenges," said Archbishop Abel. His Excellency also recalled the centenary of the independence of the Orthodox Church in Poland this year and the 35th anniversary of the revitalization of the Diocese of Lublin-Chelm.
The culmination of the ceremony was the traditional procession around the church. Under the singing and prayers, the faithful stopped at the memorial cross, where a litany was celebrated for the souls of all those who served in this place for centuries and those who gave their lives for the saint. Orthodoxy.
