Commemoration of St. Michael, Bishop of Sinada

Память святителя Михаила, епископа Синадского
Christ is risen!

Today the Church honors the memory of St. Michael, Bishop of Sinada, and St. Mary of Klopas, one of the Myrrh-bearing women, who first visited the Holy Sepulchre early in the morning, the first day after the Sabbath, and found the Monument empty, i.e., empty, and an angel told them the glad tidings of the Resurrection. St. Mary Mirophora was the mother of Joseph and James the Younger, one of the twelve apostles.

St. Michael was the scion of an aristocratic family and came from the Phrygian Synads. He lived during the time of Emperor Leo V the Armenian, who was a fanatical opponent of holy icons. He first studied theology and then went to Pontus, where he became a monk with his friend Theophylact. He returned to his homeland in the dignity of a bishop, receiving the dignity of patriarch of Agios Tarasius. He strongly opposed Leo's attempt to abolish image worship. He suffered many persecutions and imprisonments and was finally brought to death, receiving the crown and the title of confessor of the Orthodox faith.

His cart is in the monastery of the Great Lavra on Mount Athos and was also previously transported to Cyprus, in an attempt to combat the locusts that were destroying agricultural production.

Also today we celebrate the memory of St. Eumenios Saridakis, a young man who was born in Crete and served for many years in the Leprosory of Athens. His Holiness' statement was made in April 2022 by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The person who has faith in the risen Jesus Christ, the physician of souls and bodies, finds, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, a way to withstand persecution and the various vicissitudes of life caused by the changeable condition of daily life.

Christ is risen! The Lord is truly Risen!
