Commemoration of St. Macarius of Egypt

Память преподобного Макария Египетского
Today our Church honors the memory of two great ascetics, Macarius of Egypt, called Megas, and Macarius of Alexandria. The memory of the finding of the relics of St. Gregory the Theologian is also celebrated.

The two blessed saints lived in the fourth century A.D. in Egypt, in the Nitrian hermitages, and were famous both for their spiritual exploits and feats of faith, and for the many miracles they performed by the grace of God.

Their remarkable hagiographies continue to be favorite reading and reliable spiritual guidance not only for the monks, but for every conscientious Christian believer. In addition, psychologically helpful writings under the title "Macarius' Works" are preserved in the Church Secretariat, and this is because it is not known whether they were written by their own pen or by the pen of their disciples.

Through the communion of our Saints, we realize once again that the remembrance of the Saints is also an occasion for us to understand and follow the true purpose for which we came into the world, i.e., to ascend and accomplish in Christ "all things as they were ordered." and nothing in this world can separate us from this Eucharistic flow of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Today the Church of St. Macarius of Egypt celebrates in Dasoupolis Nicosia.
