On April 16, the Second Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin received in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin the head of the European Union Civilian Observation Mission in the Republic of Armenia, Marcus Ritter.
The Catholicos of All Armenians welcomed Mr. Markus Ritter to visit the spiritual center of All Armenians, noting that the meeting is an opportunity to get acquainted with the problems faced by the EU observation mission.
His Holiness expressed concern about the current tensions and the security of the residents of the border settlements, emphasizing that the encroachments and demands of Azerbaijan put Armenia in front of new security challenges, as well as jeopardize the peace negotiation process.
His Eminence highly assessed all the efforts made for the restoration of peace and stability in the region with the support of friendly countries and international structures in the current difficult situation.
In his turn, the head of the EU observation mission conveyed to His Holiness information about the activities of the observation mission and the border situation, assuring that the mission will take measures contributing to the reduction of border tension and establishment of stability in the region.
