Christ is risen! The Lord is truly risen!
Today our Church honors the memory of the holy glorious apostle, friend and evangelist John the Theologian and St. Arsenius the Great.
St. John is called the "son of thunder" and, together with his brother James, will appear as the luminous Apostles of the Gospel of the Resurrection.
John would initially be informed of the Messiah by John the Baptist and, following the Baptist's instruction, would become a disciple of the Great High Priest Christ.
John the Baptist is a beloved disciple, but also a disciple of love. His prudence and equanimity will bring him closer to the great events of the salvation of mankind. Together with his brother James and Peter, he will be present on Mount Tabor at the Transfiguration of the Savior. He is the disciple who, on the night of the Last Supper, will fall on Jesus' breast and wonder who could have committed the unjust act of betrayal.
He will also experience Christ's agony in the Garden of Gethsemane and then in the high priest's house. Much more, however, he will have an experience at Calvary, before Jesus Christ is crucified, when all the disciples leave the Master. John will hear from the lips of the God-man Jesus his words to his mother Mariam and to John himself, "behold thy son, .... behold thy mother... and the disciple received her from her."
The Apostle and Evangelist John will leave us with salvific testimonies in St. John 4 Gospel, the most theological of the other three, through his experiences alongside Jesus.
He would speak to us about love in three Catholic epistles and remain in the consciousness of the Church as the Apostle of Love. And of course, he will record the vision that God revealed to him in the prophetic book of the Apocalypse, the last book of the New Testament, which requires special attention and prayer for someone to study it, guided by the experience of the Church.
Let us listen to the words of the evangelist John: "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. God, no one has ever seen him. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love in us is perfect and complete."
Today, other churches include the old Cathedral of St. John in the Holy Archdiocese, St. John's Church in Larnaca, Katidat, Mount Sinai, Pseudas, Platanistas and the occupied community of Mias Milias, and the Hermitage of St. John. The Theologian near the community of Fikardos, District of Nicosia.
