A resident of the Tver region published a photo of a forgotten underground church

Photos of an ancient underground church on the territory of the Nikolo-Terebensky Monastery in the Maksatikhinsky District of the Tver Region that appeared on the Internet aroused great interest among lovers of Russian church antiquity and ordinary users who are attracted by everything mysterious. The pictures were taken and published by a resident of the Tver region named Inna, who had a chance to visit the forgotten house of prayer under the ground.

The monastery was founded in honor and glory of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Terebeni in the second half of the 18th century. Among his numerous brethren were hesychast monks, followers of the ancient Christian practice of silence - the so-called 'silent prayer.' It is with them that the local tradition connects a small underground church, in which it was possible to achieve the maximum degree of solitude while standing before the Lord God. An underground church dedicated to the Monk Alexander of Svir was consecrated. They say that this ascetic of piety, to whom the Holy Trinity appeared, began his spiritual exploit right here.

In the underground church of the Monk Alexander Svirsky there is an ancient icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'Blessed Womb', which is believed to help childless spouses find the desired offspring.
The Nikolo-Terebenskaya monastery in the 1930s was closed by the godless government, and since the mid-1990s it began to be restored - but already as a woman. In November of this year, the monastery, according to the decision of the Holy Synod, was again transformed into a male monastery.
