Contaminated soil contaminates the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral

Вредные выбросы, попавшие в почву, могут затруднить реставрацию собора Нотр-Дам
Environmental activists and Parisians from areas surrounding the historic Notre Dame Cathedral are demanding a hermetically sealed building that survived the fire. The reason is 440 tons of lead, which were released during the fire from the roof and spire and settled in the soil. Annie Tebault-Moni, researcher and spokeswoman for the environmental organization Association Henri Pézerat, noted that this is four times more than the emissions of this substance in all of France annually.
Lead is a neurotoxin, large quantities of which, once ingested, can negatively affect mental activity in children, settle in bones, reduce male potency, affect the fetus in pregnant women and, thus, be transmitted from generation to generation.
The authorities have already suspended the restoration process for a more accurate assessment of the condition of the cathedral. Now Notre Dame is shipped wrapped in plastic wrap and surrounded by metal scaffolding. The film, according to experts, will reduce the air pressure inside the building and prevent lead particles from continuing to seep into the air and soil around. The second is much worse, because dissolved lead from the ground can only be removed together with the soil and vegetation into which it has seeped.
Just over two weeks ago, the mayor's office closed two Parisian schools southwest of the historic church that survived the fire. Of the 175 children who passed the tests, two were found to have increased levels of lead in the body; another sixteen schoolchildren were sent for a more thorough examination.
