A copy of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior made of snow was built in a correctional institution in Kuzbass

В исправительном учреждении на Кузбассе построили копию храма Христа Спасителя из снега

In the Belovo colony on the territory of the Kemerovo region, a copy of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was erected from the snow. The snow cathedral is 4.4 meters wide, 5 meters high and 4.7 meters long. Seven convicted believers, as well as employees of the correctional institution for educational work, worked on the model of one of the most famous churches in Russia.

The intention to build a snow temple for Christians serving their sentences in a colony arose after they learned from the priest Pavel Bukanovich, who oversees the correctional institution, about the difficult fate of the famous Moscow cathedral. Built in memory of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, it was demolished in Soviet times - and, starting in 1994, it was recreated again in its previous architectural forms.

The snow temple was built on the territory of the colony next to the belfry and the worship cross. On the eve of the Epiphany, next to the cathedral, a baptismal font for festive bathing will be built out of snow.

- The Orthodox community of convicts in the colony numbers about 70 people who regularly attend services. For several years, the church has a church choir, theological courses are held and singing lessons and even a religious procession is taking place, - told the correspondent of 'Gazeta Kemerova' in the regional GU FSIN.
