Religious procession to the place of death of the new martyrs will be held in Udmurtia

В Удмуртии пройдет крестный ход к месту гибели новомучеников
On January 2, in the city of Votkinsk, Udmurt Republic, a procession will take place to the place of death of the holy martyr Nicholas and his daughter Varvara, who were shot by the Bolsheviks in 1918 after the defeat of the Izhevsk-Votkinsk uprising. As Udmurtskaya Pravda reports with reference to the Izhevsk diocese, the procession will be preceded by a divine liturgy, which will be performed at eight o'clock in the morning in the Annunciation Cathedral, where Father Nikolai served during his lifetime. The service will be led by the ruling bishop, Metropolitan of Udmurt and Izhevsk Victorin. Then the clergy and believers in a prayer procession will go to the place of the martyrdom of the saints, where a prayer service will be served. Let us recall that Archpriest Nikolai Chernyshev, the dean of the Votkinsk and Galev volosts, did not leave the priestly service even during the years of the revolution and the civil war. For a quarter of a century of blameless service and labors in public schools, he was awarded the Order of St. Anna, III degree. During the Izhevsk-Votkinsk uprising of 1918, he strengthened the faint-hearted and confessed the dying, and his daughter Varvara, a former sister of mercy, looked after the wounded. After the defeat of the uprising, Father Nikolai was sentenced to death by the Bolsheviks - his daughter voluntarily shared this fate with her father. Both of them were buried at the Upland Cemetery in Votkinsk, not far from the altar of the Transfiguration Church. Hieromartyr Nicholas and his daughter Barbara were canonized and included in the Council of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia on March 7, 2018.
