Although the church in the name of the holy great martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki in Moscow is still under construction, a large and friendly parish has already formed around it. As the newspaper “Moscow. North-West ”, on the night of November 15-16, a large icon of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius, written in Greece by monks of the holy Mount Athos, was delivered here. Despite the late hour, most of the parishioners came to greet the shrine. A special joy, according to the rector, was the arrival of the icon on the day of commemoration of the heavenly patron saint of the temple - and, of course, the fact that the holy image was painted by the monks of Athos specifically for the St. Dimitry Church in the Russian capital. The Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica is a Christian saint, a native of Thessaloniki, who lived in the third and early fourth centuries and died for his firmness in the faith during the reign of the emperor Diocletian. The veneration of this great martyr, also known as the Mirotochets, was traditionally great in Russia for centuries.
