Since this year, convicts from a number of Russian correctional institutions have the opportunity to study remotely in Sunday schools for adults operating at Orthodox parishes.
In the Ulyanovsk region, ten people serving sentences in IK-10 entered educational distance courses at the Moscow Church of the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian in Shubin, the information portal Media73 reports. At the same time, the opportunities for full-time education are being realized. So, in the already mentioned correctional institution at the church of the holy apostles Peter and Paul, a Sunday school has been operating since this year. Classes in it are conducted by the assistant head of the parish - and the curriculum is based on lectures of distance courses. Upon graduation, graduates of the Sunday school will have exams. In correctional institutions, where such classes are held, face-to-face or distance, their course is often supplemented with a series of conversations from Gennady Shichko's school of sobriety. The acquisition of spiritual knowledge by convicts often occurs in an informal setting: at the libraries of a number of correctional institutions in the Ulyanovsk region there are church reading circles.
