According to Reuters, a lone terrorist attack on a Coptic church in the Cairo suburb of Helvane killed ten people and shot the attacker. Several more people were injured. Police in the Egyptian capital are looking for possible accomplices; national television calls on concerned citizens to provide all possible assistance in the search. According to the police, the man started shooting from automatic weapons right at the entrance to the building. He wounded five guards and killed an officer as well as several members of the temple. The terrorist was killed by the return fire of the police officers. A suicide belt was found on the attacker's body; two more explosive devices were found and defused in the immediate vicinity of the church. Recall that on the eve of the Christmas holidays, the authorities of the Arab Republic of Egypt have taken unprecedented measures to protect temples and other religious buildings belonging to the Coptic community. Thousands of Egyptian police and military personnel were to provide security during the Christian holidays. Obviously, even such large-scale measures were insufficient.
