The first temple of the Russian Orthodox Church to be built in Portugal
22 July 2020
Metropolitan Anthony (Sevryuk) of Korsun and Western Europe paid an archpastoral visit to Portugal, where he visited the city of Cascais. Here, according to PRAVMIR, the local Orthodox parish acquired a plot of land on which, in honor and glory of the Lord God, it is planned to build a Russian church in the name of St. John Chrysostom. Митрополит Корсунский и Западноевропейский Антоний Hegumen Peter (Pruteanu), who cares for the local Russian-speaking community, presented the project of the future temple complex to the ruling bishop and reported on the progress of the coordination of the future construction with the local mayor's office. On the site where the temple will be built, Metropolitan Anthony served a prayer service. After him, Vladyka turned to the members of the local Orthodox community and wished them God's help in the good deed of church building. As a reminder, there are 11 registered Orthodox parishes in Portugal today. For common prayer, believers use rented premises or private households owned by parishioners.
