The village of Piskaly in the Samara region is known to believers for its holy springs, of which there are as many as three. But the wooden church in the village was destroyed about a hundred years ago, during the turbulent events of the Civil War. Viktor Markedonov, a 67-year-old pensioner who worked in the oil industry for many years, decided to build a village church next to the spring with his own hands. To this day, the work is close to completion: it remains to lay the floor with tiles and install the iconostasis. Viktor Markedonov is not only a builder, but also a caretaker of a rural church. Here he meets pilgrims who regularly come to Piskaly to visit the holy springs - a church was built near one of the three that beat here. The unfinished object can be viewed by everyone. Victor willingly tells those who come, how 12 years ago, having retired, he came to Piskaly and immediately set about clearing one of the sources. And then the idea came to build a church for fellow villagers. The construction process, which today is close to completion, was led by the honored oilman of Russia himself; a considerable part of the work was done under his supervision by the villagers - voluntarily, free of charge. Funds for the future temple were collected, as they say, by the whole world; donated to the church and businessmen. For the revived rural church, Viktor Markedonov was awarded the title of an honorary resident of the village of Piskaly.
