'Temple-spaceship': Russian Greek Catholic Church of St. Nicholas in Queens, New York, USA

«Храм-космолёт»: русская греко-католическая церковь святителя Николая в Куинсе, Нью-Йорк, США
Built and consecrated in 1968, a year before the Apollo 11 crew landed on the moon, this stellar shuttle-like temple recalls the hopes and aspirations of the sixties generation, chief among which was the thirst for new space discoveries. Referring back to the time of the peaceful competition for primacy in near space, which unfolded mainly between the USSR and the USA, the lines of the building bizarrely bend, giving the building a futuristic look, which is reinforced by silvery fragments of the cladding on the roof of the temple. The Russian Greek Catholic Church or otherwise - the Russian Church of the Byzantine rite is the Eastern Catholic church of sui iuris ( 'of one's own right'). It was created for Catholics who adhere to the Eastern rite in Russia, as well as those in exile - the so-called Russian Apostolate. Thus, two exarchates were successively created: in Russia (in 1917) and in Harbin (in 1928). Today, there are about forty communities of the Russian Greek Catholic Church in the world, more than half of which are outside the Russian Federation. Divine services in churches, in addition to the Church Slavonic language, are also performed in Russian and in the language of the country in which the community operates. For example, in the church of the saint Nicholas in Queens, New York, in addition to Slavic, Russian and English are also spoken.
