Daily interpretation of the Holy Gospel on December 25

From Luke. 21: 28–33
When this begins to come true, then bow up and lift up your heads, for your deliverance is approaching.
And he told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and at all the trees:
when they are already blooming, then, seeing this, you know yourself that summer is already near.
So, and when you see that come true, know that the Kingdom of God is near.
Truly I say to you: this generation will not pass away, as all this will be;
heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Blzh. Theophylact Bulgarian
Art. 34-35 Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away, as all these things will be. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away

By 'this generation' does not mean the generation of the people of that time, but the race of the faithful, expressing the following thought: 'this generation will not pass away' until all this happens. When you hear about hunger and plague, then do not think that from such calamities the race of the faithful will perish; no, he will abide, and no horrors will overcome him.
Others refer “all this” only to the capture of Jerusalem, and not to the second coming, and interpret it this way: “this generation will not pass away,” that is, the generation contemporary to the apostles will already see all the incidents with Jerusalem.
Confirming what has been said, he says: it is easier for heaven and earth, for solid and immovable elements, to be destroyed than even one of My words cannot be justified.

“Truly I say to you, do not this generation will pass away, as all this will be '
(Mark 13:30; Luke 21:32). Chrysostom says that the Savior “here speaks not of the generation then living, but of the faithful.
Genus is designated not only by time, but also by the image of religion and life, as, for example, when it is said: this kind of seekers of the Lord (Ps. 23: 6). ' Prov. 21: 11-14; Jer. 8: 3.
Jerome understood the expression “this kind” in two ways: aut omne genus hominum significat, aut spesialiter Judaeorum (meaning either the entire human race, or especially the Jews).

Conversations on the Gospel of Mark, read on the radio 'Grad Petrov'

But how long to wait? Verse 30 presupposes an acute sense of disorder and the expectation of the end: 'Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away, as all this will be.'
So it was during the earthly life of Jesus, and so it was during the time of the Evangelist. “This kind will not pass away,” that is, it is assumed 30-40 years. Jesus was right here too.
It is unlikely that these words refer to the Day of the Second Coming, if only because the Lord Himself says in the next sentence that he does not know exactly when this day will come. And the statement “this generation will not pass away, as all this will be” refers to the fall of Jerusalem predicted by Jesus Christ and the destruction of the temple.
All this was fully fulfilled during the lifetime of the current generation.
