St. George of Amastris

Bishop of Amastris, on the Black Sea, he defended his see from a Saracen attack. George was born in Cromna, near Amastris. He lived as a hermit on Mount Sirik, and then served as a monk at Bonyssa Monastery before being consecrated as a bishop over his objections.
