St. Eusignius

Eusignius
Feastday: August 5
Birth: 252
Death: 362
Eusignius was an aged war veteran, having served in the Roman Army for sixty years under four emperors. Among Coptic Christians there is a tradition that Eusignius had helped the emperor Constantine to interpret the vision of the cross in the sky he had experienced before the decisive battle at the Milvian Bridge in 312. At the age of 110, Eusignius suffered beheading at Antioch (Antakya, Turkey) after refusing to sacrifice to the pagan gods, during the renewed persecution of Christianity under the emperor Julian the Apostate.
