Bl. Petronax

Petronax, of Brescia, Italy, entered Rome's Benedictine monastery of the Lateran, a religious community founded over a century earlier by refugees of the Montecasino abbey after Montecassino had been destroyed by Lombard invaders in 580. In 718, Pope Saint Gregory II, a Benedictine himself, resolved to restore Montecassino by sending to the ruined abbey a contingent of the Lateran's monks, led by Petronax. Petronax presided over the rebuilding of the monastery and restored its reputation as a major center of piety and learning.
