Bl. Louis Beltran (Bertrand) and Companions

The Dominican missionary priest, Louis Beltran, from Barcelona, Spain, was a relative of another revered Dominican missionary priest with the same name, Saint Louis Beltran (+1581), who had served in Latin America. The younger Father Beltran ministered in secret to the persecuted Catholics of Omura, Japan. After being captured and imprisoned by the pagan authorities, he was put to death by fire together with two Dominican lay brothers, Peter of the Holy Mother of God and Mancius of the Holy Cross. Peter, a native of Japan, and Mancius, an elderly man, were both catechists. Peter and Mancius were admitted to the Dominican Order shortly before their execution.
