Bl. Liberatus of Lauro

A native of Piceno, Italy, Liberatus abandoned his prestigious station in life as a son of the wealthy Brunforte family to enter the Franciscan friary of Soffiano. Following his ordination as a Franciscan priest, he obtained permission from his superiors to live in solitude so as to devote himself totally to prayer and meditation. Liberatus became so deeply rapt in contemplation that he sometimes passed entire days without taking any food or sleep. His face when in ecstasy appeared radiant with light. On his deathbed, Liberatus spoke to his confreres of the joys of heaven.
