About object
According to Tradition, the Monastery of the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Serkhupov was founded on the direct orders of the Lady, who appeared to Metropolitan Alexy of Moscow and showed him the place where She wanted to establish a holy monastery. Obeying the will of the Heavenly Queen, the saint sent to Serpukhov his cell attendant, the monk Varlaam, who, before the foundation of the temple of the future monastery, was also honored with the vision of the Mother of God. Subsequently, the Monk Varlaam became the first abbot of the Vladychny monastery.
For four centuries the Vladyka monastery developed and flourished. However, by the end of the 18th century, the monastery fell into decay: churches and cells were not restored for a long time due to lack of funds, services almost stopped, and most of the brethren dispersed. In 1806, the monastery was reorganized - from a man's to a girl's, after which its revival gradually began. By the middle of the 19th century, the number of local inhabitants had grown to three hundred.
In 1878, in the Vladychny Monastery of Serpukhov, the miraculous acquisition of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos 'The Inexhaustible Chalice' took place, prayer before which helps to get rid of drunkenness and other destructive passions.
At the beginning of the Soviet era, the monastery was closed, and most of the sisters were evicted. Services in the main cathedral of the monastery - Vvedensky - continued until 1927, and then it was closed as well. Some of the sisters and the monastery priest (later - martyr) Ioann Brilliantov were shot at the Butovo training ground. The atheists and the parishioner of the Vvedensky Church, Elisaveta Krymova (glorified in the host of the new martyrs of Russia), who sheltered the nuns and supported the exiled sisters of the monastery who were found nearby ... The local residents gradually took away the monastery buildings for building materials, and this territory itself began to be called the Aviagorodok.
The revival of the Vladychny Monastery began only in the mid-90s of the last century. By that time, the monastery was in a dilapidated state. However, the inhabitants of the newly formed female Vladychny monastery patiently, year after year, restored the historical heritage destroyed during the atheistic era. Today it is hard to believe that the newly prosperous monastery was once on the verge of extinction: the prayer of the sisters and their daily work performed a real miracle - the Vladychny Vvedensky Monastery in Serpukhov became one of the the most beautiful convents of the Moscow region.
