Kuvuklia is a small domed chapel built of yellow-pink marble in the center of the Rotunda of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem, containing the Holy Sepulcher, the greatest Christian shrine. According to legend, the body of Christ was placed in a cave on Calvary, which belonged to Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus and an influential person. In 326 AD, the Holy Sepulcher was found by the Empress Helena. The pagan temple, erected over this holy place, was demolished, and a Christian temple was built in its place. For many years, pilgrims tried to chop off a piece of stone from the Lodge, on which the body of Christ lay, and then they covered it with a marble slab. Several centuries ago, the slab cracked when Muslims wanted to take it to decorate the mosque. The appearance of a crack, which happened miraculously, stopped the Muslims, and the slab remained in its place.
