The chapel of the fainting of the Virgin is located in the Armenian chapel of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. It is located on the spot where, according to legend, the Mother of God Mary stood at the Crucifixion of the Son. There is always an unquenchable fire burning. In front of us in the form of an Armenian miniature temple appears a slender kivorium-chapel made of light stone under a hipped, hexagonal dome. Between the four columns is a round white stone slab with a lamp in the center. This is the chapel, which in the literature is often referred to as the “chapel of the three Marys” in honor of the designation of the place where the women who witnessed the Crucifixion were located: “At the cross of Jesus stood His Mother and His Mother's sister, Mary Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene” (John 19:25). Representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church call this kiborium the Chapel of the Fainting of the Mother of God. The chapel was erected in 1960, and the former ciborium, made of metal, can be seen on display in the museum of the Armenian Quarter. On the wall on the western side of this chapel there is an unusual, eye-catching mosaic depicting the Crucifixion, the prototype of which was one of the miniatures of the Armenian Gospel of the 13th century. In this holy place, you can light a candle online at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
