From November 5 to 7, 2024, at the Cultural Center of the parish of. St. Demetrios in Neo Faliro in Piraeus hosted the XXXIV Pan-Orthodox Conference of Delegates of the Orthodox Churches and Holy Metropolises on Heresies and Parareligion, with the theme: "Manifestations, Influences and Pan-religious Vision of the 'New Age'" .
The work of the conference was held under the patronage of His Eminence Hieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Hellas. It was attended by delegates from ten Orthodox Churches and seventy-seven Metropolises of the Orthodox Churches of Greece, Crete and the Dodecanese.
The conference was presided over by His Eminence Seraphim, Metropolitan of Piraeus, Chairman of the Synodal Commission on Heresies.
The solemn consecration, which opened the event, was performed by His Excellency Damaskinos, Metropolitan of Kidon and Apokoronos of the semi-autonomous Church of Crete, representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches: Metropolitan Emmanuel of Diospolsk (Patriarchate of Alexandria), Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Athens, Archimandrite Jerome (Patriarchate of Jerusalem) Archimandrite Eusebius Meandzija and Fr. Oliver Subotić (Serbian Patriarchate) Metropolitan Grzegorz of Vrachanski (Bulgarian Patriarchate) Fr. Protopresbyter Panayiotis Pipis (Cypriot Church), Fr. Archpriest Kyriakos Tsouros (Greek Orthodox Church), Jerzy Betlejko, MA (Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church) and Fr. Archpriest Ioannis Mercouris (Albanian Church) who read messages from the heads of their churches.
Due to the current situation in Lebanon and the Middle East region, a representative of His Holiness Patriarch John X of Antioch of Antioch was unable to attend in person, but his message was nevertheless read.
Also present were Metropolitan Seraphim of Cypher, Metropolitan Mark of Chios, Bishop Stephen of Stratonica, Bishop Paul of Thespia, and Bishop Niphont of Acheloi.
The following seven papers were presented at the conference:
"New Age", transhumanism and artificial intelligence,
"Alternative therapies in the context of the 'New Age'",
"Religious syncretism as an expression of the New Age",
"The status of religious activities of groups not belonging to the Greek Church: legislation and its implementation",
"The influence of New Age on the modern way of life",
"New Age Anthropology."
"Transhumanism: a new view of the human being from a New Age perspective."
On Wednesday, November 6 of this year, the afternoon session concluded with presentations by representatives of the Holy Metropolises, who presented
"Transhumanism: A New View of Man from a New Age Perspective". issues related to pastoral activities in the context of threats from various heresies.
On Thursday, November 7 of this year, during the morning session concluding the conference, the text of the final communiqué was discussed and unanimously adopted.
