On September 16, 2024 Bishop Anthony of Volgodonsk and Salsky, accompanied by the clergy of Volgodonsk. Volgodonsk celebrated a memorial service for the innocents killed at the site of the blown-up apartment building.
Today residents of Volgodonsk remember the victims of the terrorist attack that took place 25 years ago. On September 16, a truck parked in front of the house at 35 Oktyabrskoye Shosse exploded. Nineteen people died, hundreds were injured, and thousands were recognized as victims.
After the memorial service, Vladyka Antony addressed the participants of the mourning rally: «Dear brothers and sisters! Over the past year, our country has once again come face to face with the horrible face of terrorism. And this means that someone again needs our experience of overcoming the tragedy, our experience of unity. Someone needs our prayers again. You and I have this experience. The most important thing is that in the Kingdom of Heaven there are people who will stand together with our citizens in one row in order to pray for all of us who are living today. To pray that we do not let that very fear into our hearts. Pray that despite all the attempts to multiply the pain of people, you and I will find the strength to resist it. To pray that you and I remain one people. Kingdom of Heaven, eternal rest to all the innocently killed!
Then the clergy, together with the leaders of the city, major enterprises, rescuers, doctors, police officers and concerned citizens laid flowers at the monument to the victims of the tragedy.
