The Russian House in Belgrade hosted a large charity concert in support of the Church of St. Basil of Ostrog in Niksic, Montenegro.
The event, organized by the Orthodox Thread Society from Belgrade, was attended by Bishop Teodosije of Raško-Prizren, Archimandrite Stefan, rector of the Velika Remeta Monastery, Archimandrite Luka, rector of the Karno Monastery, and Archbishop Slobodan Jokic, archpriest of Nikšić, Archpriest Miodrag Todorovic, Archpriest Luka Cicmil, Chairman of the Niksic Municipality Marko Kovačević, numerous clergy from the dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as well as representatives of social, cultural and political life. Archpriest Miodrag Todorovic addressed the audience on behalf of the Budimljansko-Nikšić Diocese and the Nikšić church community.
Many popular performers of traditional folk and spiritual music, as well as folklore ensembles from Serbia and Montenegro performed at the concert with an extensive cultural and artistic program.
The cathedral in Niksic was built in 1895 by order of Prince Nikola I Petrovic Negos in memory of the heroes from Montenegro and Herzegovina who fought alongside Russian volunteers in the war of liberation against the Turks from 1876 to 1878.
The author of the temple project was Russian architect Mikhail Timofeyevich Preobrazhensky, author of many church and secular buildings in Russia and abroad. The Niksic Temple, designed according to the Byzantine model, is decorated with icons presented to the Serbian people by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
