On the Feast of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, the Sretensk Theological Academy hosted the first graduation of graduate students

В праздник Владимирской иконы Божией Матери в Сретенской духовной академии состоялся первый выпуск аспирантов

On July 5 and 6, 2024, the Sretensky Stavropegial Monastery in Moscow held solemn services dedicated to the feast of the Vladimir Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Also on July 6, the academy hosted the first graduation of graduate students of Sretensky Theological Academy.

Sretensky Theological Academy.

The All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy in the Sretensky Monastery were led by Hegumen John (Ludishchev), Acting Rector of the SDA and Vicar of the Sretensky Monastery. He was served by the brethren, graduates and students of the academy in the clergy.

After the Liturgy the graduates were given certificates of graduation. Hegumen John addressed them with the words: «Dear brothers and sisters!  Today, on the feast of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, we have another event at the Sretensk Theological Academy, which this year marks 25 years since the beginning of its existence. Three years ago the Sretensk Theological Academy opened a graduate school. During these three years the students of our Theological Academy have conducted their studies. Today they are receiving their certificates of graduation from the postgraduate school. They have prepared their dissertations, but this is still only part of the work. Ahead of them they will have to present this research in dissertation councils and defend them.

Father Ioann noted: «Our postgraduate school came into being largely thanks to its head, Zoya Vyacheslavovna Makarovskaya, who invested enormous efforts to ensure that today the first graduates received their certificates of graduation. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, from 2021 the academy has opened a program for training personnel of higher qualification — postgraduate studies. A significant contribution to the creation of this program was made by Chairman of the Teaching Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church Protopriest Maxim Kozlov, who at that time was Rector of the Sretensky Theological Seminary. It was during his rectorship that a synodal decision was made to grant our educational institution the status of an academy: on April 13, 2021, the Holy Synod decided to open at Sretensk Theological Seminary a program for the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel of higher qualification, which made it possible for the educational institution to adopt the name "Academy". The postgraduate program of the Sretensk Theological Academy is the youngest among all the existing ones in the Russian Orthodox Church.

Father John wished the graduates of the Sretensk Theological School the following wishes God's help in the forthcoming defense of candidate dissertations.
