On June 22, 2024, the Day of Remembrance and Mourning — the 83rd anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the All-Russian memorial action «Candle of Remembrance» took place in the Patriarchal Cathedral in honor of the Resurrection of Christ — the main church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, located in the Odintsovo district of the Moscow Region.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Synodal Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk, Deputy Minister of Defense — Head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, Colonel-General V.P. Goremykin, Head of the Directorate General of the Armed Forces. Goremykin, head of the Department for Cooperation with Religious Associations O.Y. Veselkov, servicemen of the central military authorities and the Moscow territorial garrison, members of public and veteran organizations, military clergy, representatives of youth organizations of the Moscow region, including the children's and youth movement «Yunarmia»

In memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War in the main church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a requiem liturgy was celebrated. The service was led by Vladyka Kirill.
At exactly 4:00 a.m. In the morning after the bell was struck to the music of the song «Cranes» the participants of the action placed candles at the memorial «Mothers of Winners» and at the capsules with earth from the mass graves.
During the day, those who wished could join the action and light their candle at the memorial.
The day before, a flash mob took place on the cathedral square of the main temple of the Russian Armed Forces, during which more than three hundred servicemen of the Moscow territorial garrison with lit candles lined up in the form of the number «1418» symbolizing the number of days of the Great Patriotic War and placed candles along the perimeter of the museum complex «Road of Memory»
