On November 22-23, 2024, the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate will host the sixth international conference «Care of the Church for the Mentally Ill». The meeting is organized on the initiative of the Commission on Church Education and Diakonia of the Intersocietal Presence of the Russian Orthodox Church. The co-organizers are the Department for External Church Relations and the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Scientific Center for Mental Health».

The conference will discuss age-related aspects of mental disorders and peculiarities of pastoral care of people with these diseases. In particular, the issues of late-life depression, autoaggressive behavior in adolescents, the influence of family conflicts on the mental health of family members, the influence of prayer on mental health, etc.

The conference will be attended by psychiatrists and psychologists, clergymen and students of theological schools, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Ancient Eastern Churches. The reports will be presented by leading Russian and foreign experts in the field, including from Spain, Armenia, India, Ethiopia, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, etc.
