The Resurrection Cathedral in the city of Dzerzhinsk was created for 30 years. On August 12, 1994 Metropolitan Nicholas (Kutepov) of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas blessed the construction project of the temple complex, which marked the beginning of spiritual life in this area, because until then there were no temples in this city.
The construction of the Resurrection Cathedral began in 1998 and lasted 26 years. It was created on the donations of individuals with the participation of various enterprises and organizations. The city administration supported the construction.
The first Divine Liturgy in the cathedral under construction was celebrated in 2008 — in its lower Assumption church. In addition to the central throne, in the lower church consecrated two side chapels — in honor of the new martyrs Nicholas Filippov and Anisia Maslanova. В Last June, the first of the three side chapels of the upper Resurrection Church was consecrated in honor of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God. This holy image, brought from the Holy Mount Athos, permanently resides in the cathedral. In early June of this year in the upper church was consecrated aisle in honor of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women. The two temples of the cathedral will be able to accommodate up to 5000 people.
The painting in the cathedral was carried out for more than a year. During this time more than 7000 square meters were painted. The artistic dominant was the mosaic image of the Savior, which decorates the conch above the altar part of the temple. In their work the icon painters used Romanesque, Byzantine and Old Russian motifs. Similar synthesis of Byzantine and Old Russian styles was applied by the specialists in the design of the iconostasis.
