August 16, 2024 in Kursk was held the opening of the church center of comprehensive social assistance. Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk and Archpriest Mikhail Potokin, Vice-Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service and Head of the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission, performed a prayer service and consecrated the premises of the center.
«In the new center, in addition to material assistance, people will receive targeted social support. People's needs can be very diverse. Our staff and volunteers will talk to each person to try to help them with what they really need, — said Archpriest Michael Potokin.
Priority direction of work — rendering targeted assistance to refugees, individual approach to each person who applied. Volunteers have started to visit those who cannot get to the center on their own, the elderly, the disabled, the seriously ill.
Resettlers from the shelled territories have already started to receive basic necessities: food, bedding, medicines, clothes, hygiene products.
More than 70 Kursk volunteers are involved in the work of the new center.
The new center is located in the Holy Trinity Church. Kursk monastery at the address: 13/2 Gorkogo Street. It works from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 19.00.
Another point of church help in Kursk — the point of humanitarian aid at the youth department of the Kursk diocese. This center has become one of the main aid points in the city. Volunteers give basic necessities to displaced people from the shelled border territories.
Resettlers from the Kursk region also turn to the church headquarters for refugees in Moscow. Since August 6, 174 people have applied for help there.
The Synodal Department for Charity, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, has been involved in organizing support for the victims of shelling in Kursk region since the first days of the tragedy. The Church sends shipments of humanitarian aid to Kursk. The hotline of the Synodal Department for Charity, 8-800-70-70-222, is working hard. The Church's temporary accommodation centers have been deployed in different regions. Good people from all over the country are also calling the hotline and offering free accommodation in their regions.
