On November 26, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with Igor Yurievich Babushkin, governor of the Astrakhan region, and Metropolitan Nikon, head of the Astrakhan Metropolis Metropolitan of Astrakhan and Kamyzyak, at the Patriarchal and Synodal Residence in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow.
Holy Vladyka warmly greeted the governor and the head of the Metropolis.
I.Y. Babushkin and Metropolitan Nikon told His Holiness about fruitful cooperation between the dioceses of the Astrakhan Metropolis and the state authorities of the Astrakhan region, in particular, in the revival of the pearl of Russian architecture of the XVII-XX centuries.Astrakhan's Annunciation Monastery and the construction of the Church of the Blessed Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky, located at the intersection of Bakinskaya and Musa Jalil streets in Astrakhan.
A number of other issues of church-state cooperation in the region were discussed during the further conversation.
