A delegation from the Publishers' Council visited the St. Petersburg Diocese.
The delegation included V.Y. Malyagin, laureate of the Patriarchal Literature Prize named after Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius; Priest Zachary Saveliev, leading specialist in cooperation with dioceses, head of the project «Word Space» and I.A. Junzhurova, an employee of the Publishing Council.
On November 18, members of the delegation visited the fundamental library of the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, donated to the library the jubilee album of the Patriarchal Literary Award named after Equal Apostles Cyril and Methodius and held a working meeting on the issues of interaction and assistance in the acquisition of the library by the Publishing Council. Agreements were reached on the provision of consultative assistance from the Publishing Council to the library staff working with the fund of Orthodox literature. Director of the Fundamental Library N.N. Kvelidze-Kuznetsova expressed her gratitude for the gift to the library from the Publishing Council.
On November 19, Priest Zachary Saveliev took part in the Theology Council of the St. Petersburg Diocese and spoke about the recently launched jointly by the Russian Academy of Education (RAO) and the Publishing Council meaningful reading contest «Reasonable, Good, Eternal» and about the experience of creating and holding the youth festival of book culture «Word Space» held on July 27 in the art park «Museon» (Moscow). Having listened to the introductory report, Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Varsonofii proposed to hold a similar festival in St. Petersburg and to coincide this event with the Day of Slavonic Script and Culture.
On the same day the presentation of the facsimile edition of «Dostoevsky's Gospel» was held in the walls of the Resurrection Smolny Cathedral. A lecture on the life and works of Dostoevsky during his time on penal servitude in Tobolsk was delivered by priest Zachary Savelyev. The event was attended by Archpriest Peter Mukhin, dean for work with universities, as well as clerics, parishioners and youth activists of the Resurrection Smolny Cathedral.
In the evening of the same day there was a meeting with undergraduate students of St. Petersburg Theological Academy. Fr. Zacharias gave a presentation on a number of educational activities that are being implemented by the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. Publishing Council, — Patriarchal Literary Award, open competition of publications «Enlightenment through the book», «Day of the Orthodox Book», competitions «Reasonable, Good, Eternal», «Good Beginning» and also told about the past festival of book culture «The Space of the Word», presented «The Gospel of Dostoevsky» and answered numerous questions from the students of the Academy.
November 20 in the management of the St. Petersburg diocese held a round table «Church and young writers», which was attended by V.Yu. Malyagin, priest Zachary Saveliev, an employee of the Publishing Council Irina Junzhurova, Secretary of the Union of Writers of Russia, head of the literary part of the almanac «Young Petersburg» Roman Kruglov, a member of the executive committee of the Council of Young Writers of the Union of Writers of Russia Ekaterina Ogareva, young writers, students of philology. During the round table, Father Zachary spoke about new projects implemented by the Publishing Council and focused on young people («The Space of the Word», the contest of meaningful reading «Reasonable, Good, Eternal»), and made a number of proposals for the implementation of these areas with the participation of young writers and students of universities of both capitals.
At the end of the round table, members of the delegation of the Publishing Council and Priest Ilia Petrov, Deputy Chairman of the Publishing Council of the St. Petersburg Diocese, met with cadets of the St. Petersburg Military Order of Zhukov Institute of the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation and the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
November 21 in the Central City Public Library named after V.V. On November 21, the Mayakovsky Central City Public Library held an informative and presentation meeting with the staff of municipal libraries of St. Petersburg, at which Father Zachary Savelyev presented the competition and educational projects of the Publishing Council. Junjurova told her colleagues about the possibilities of the Publishing Council in helping to complete, promote and disclose the collection of Orthodox literature, including in secular libraries; she presented the educational and methodological manual for the Moscow Patriarch's library, developed by the Publishing Council together with specialists from the Russian State Library, the Moscow State Institute of Culture, the CRC «Orthodox Encyclopedia», Synodal Library of the Moscow Patriarchate, and Synodal Library. Herzen, priest Zachary Saveliev made a presentation of publishing and literary projects of the Publishing Council, invited students to participate in competitions («Reasonable, Good, Eternal», «Summer of the Lord», «New Library») and festival («Space of the Word») programs. V.Y. Malyagin told about the Patriarchal Literary Award, the opportunity to participate in this and other literary competitions. He shared his experience of creative activity, told about the peculiarities of the work of a playwright and reminded about the importance of studying the history of the country. The writer presented some of his books with autographs — fiction and educational — to the library of the pedagogical university.
