On January 8, 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Christmas play "The Mystery of the Old Mirror" took place in the Hall of Church Councils of Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. Its plot was based on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Story".
The spectators of the performance were children whose parents are in prison, children of prison chaplains - clergymen who serve in penitentiary institutions of Moscow, employees of the Central Office of the Federal Service for the Execution of Punishments (FSIN) of Russia, the Department of Educational, Social and Psychological Work of the Federal Service for the Execution of Punishments (FSIN) of Russia, the Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow. A total of 1200 people took part in the event. Children were given Christmas presents.
The holiday was organized on the initiative of the Synodal Department for Prison Ministry with the assistance of the Commission for Social Service in Prisons of the Diocesan Council of Moscow, the parish of the Church of St. Nicholas of Myra, the Patriarchal Suburbs in the village of Zdehov, Moscow region, and the "Worthy to Eat" Charitable Foundation.
The performance was a renewal of the tradition that had been interrupted due to pandemic restrictions.
