His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Mr. Porfiry, who, together with seven other archbishops, was scheduled to arrive in the afternoon, according to the established order, at the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the monastery of the Peć Patriarchate, for the beginning of the regular annual session of the Holy Synod of Bishops, was stopped at the Merdare administrative crossing by the officers of the provisional authorities in Pristina and without any explanation stated that they were forbidden to enter the province.
From the perspective of the rights and freedoms of any human being, the decision to ban the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the bishops from coming to the ancient headquarters of the Serbian Orthodox Church is unjustified and unacceptable, while at the same time it paints an accurate picture of the situation of the Serbian Church and the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.
The Patriarch calls on all those who have influence over the situation in Kosovo and Metohija to do everything possible to stop the blatant violation of the human rights of the Serbian people, including the right to freedom of movement of the Serbian Patriarch, bishops and clergy. . Patriarch Porphyrios will not abandon his people in Kosovo and Metohija and will do everything possible to meet with them as soon as possible and pray to God with them.
The meeting of the Holy Synod of Bishops will begin tomorrow at the Church of St. Sava on Vračar, where the Holy Liturgy of the Bishops with the participation of all bishops will begin at 9:00.
