Admiral P.V. Chichagov — an active participant of the Patriotic War of 1812. He commanded the Danube, Southern Army, led the pursuit of Napoleon in what is now Belarus and led the Russian troops in the Battle of Berezina, during which the French Grand Army, having lost 40,000 people, ceased to exist. Because of accusations of failure to take Napoleon prisoner, he left Russia in 1814 and lived in England, Italy, and France. He was the only one of the commanders-in-chief of armies in the War of 1812 who left behind a written record of that military campaign.
