On September 13, 2024, Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission for Physical Culture and Sport Metropolitan Mitrofan of Murmansk and Monchegorsk along with Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas visited the table tennis and basketball competitions held as part of the II All-Russian Sports Games of Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky at the physical culture and recreation complex «Meshchersky» and the sports school «Meshchera». With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the II All-Russian Sports Games of St. Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky are being held in Nizhny Novgorod September 11-16. The Games are organized by the Patriarchal Commission for Physical Culture and Sport together with the Russian Ministry of Sport, by the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitan Church.
The main prize of the games, the passing cup of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, will be played according to the results of competitions in six sports: basketball, sambo, table tennis, chess, soccer and fulfillment of the standards of the All-Russian Sports Council GTO. In addition, there will be tournaments in fijital hockey and network chess. Within the framework of the All-Russian Sports Games, the Regulations provide for the All-Russian Forum «Faith and Sport» and other events of missionary, educational, cultural, scientific, training and methodological orientation.The Games are held within the framework of the federal project «Sport — norm of life» in accordance with the Unified calendar plan of interregional, all-Russian and international physical culture and sports events in order to popularize physical culture and sports among various groups of the population of the Russian Federation.
