Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord and Commemoration of St. Basil in the Patriarchate

On the night of January 1-14, 2024, the Patriarchate celebrated the Lord's Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord and the memory of St. Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea of Cappadocia.


This feast was solemnly celebrated as a "parricia", with splendor and splendor, initially in the Cafolicon of the Church of the Resurrection with Matins and Catavasia and then with the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great in the Most Holy Sepulchre, led by His Divine Beatitude Our Father and Patriarch Theophilus of Jerusalem. He was served by Their Eminences Metropolitan Isikhios of Capitolias, Archbishops Theophanes of Gerasa, Aristarchus of Constantine and Demetrius of Lydda, hieromonks of the Holy Sepulchre, the first of whom was the Senior Kamarasis Archimandrite Nectarius, deacons and representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate Fr. Vassian and the Romanian Patriarchate Fr. Ioan. Hierodeacon Simeon on the right and Monk Joseph on the left sang, in the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem, Mr. Dimitrios Angelosopoulos.


After the Divine Liturgy at the Most Holy Places of Pilgrimage, there was a procession with the right hand of Great Basil, which is kept in Riznitsa.


At the end of the procession there was a cutting of St. Basil's cake in the office of the Senior Riznitza, Archbishop Isidore of Hierapolis by His Beatitude, who distributed it and wished her happy and a prosperous new year 2024.


At about 07.00 am after the Divine Liturgy in the monastery church of Saints Constantine and Helen, His Beatitude cut the cake of the Holy Sepulchral Fathers in the epitropikon.


At noon His Beatitude sat down at the meal of the Holy Sepulchers in the Central Monastery and blessed it.
