In the evening of April 5, 2024, an emergency occurred in Orsk, Orenburg region, because of heavy flooding, a dam built on the Ural River broke. More than 6 thousand households in the old part of Orsk were affected. At the moment, due to the rapid flooding is flooding the neighboring city of Novotroitsk and partially the city of Orenburg, as well as some districts of Orsk. Orenburg, as well as some districts belonging to the Buzuluk diocese.
In Orsk in the flood zone were three churches: the church in honor of the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary "Deliverer" (Kazalinskaya St., 12), the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sokolova St., 85), the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Kirov St., 18).
In Buzuluk diocese in the flood zone were five churches - partially flooded foundations. In two churches under construction, the plinths were flooded completely.
In the Orenburg diocese, no temples are currently in the flood zone.
In connection with the difficult situation, the social ministry department of the Orsk diocese together with the social ministry department of the Orenburg and Buzuluk dioceses are collecting humanitarian aid, food, clothing, personal hygiene items and with the help of volunteers to distribute to temporary housing centers, as well as provide material and spiritual support to the victims.
A bakery in the Iversky Convent in Orsk is reoriented to baking bread for the city residents, as there is a shortage of bread products in the city stores. There is a well with drinking water in the monastery hermitage, which is continuously bottled by the hermitage residents and distributed to the needy together with bread. City residents receive baked monastery bread and water free of charge at the St. George Cathedral and the Church of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon in Orsk. In the monastery of Orsk the corps for pilgrims receives flood victims.
The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Orsk, located on a mountain (elevation), is surrounded by water. Nevertheless, regular statutory services continue in it. The delivery of provisions to the temple was organized by means of swimming facilities.

Every day without interruption, the diocesan aid center "Cradle" receives people affected by flooding and provides assistance with food, personal hygiene products, clothing, shoes, household appliances, warm blankets, pillows, bedding and accommodation.
The specialists offer legal, psychological, humanitarian and informational assistance to those who apply to "Cradle". help.
In addition to the "Cradle", almost all churches in Orenburg became centers for collecting humanitarian aid.
The social department of the Orenburg diocese also organizes "Basket of Kindness" charity events in Pyaterochka stores in Orenburg and in cooperation with the "Rus Food Bank" BF.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Peter of Orenburg and Saraktash, prayers are offered at the Divine Liturgy in the churches of the Orenburg Diocese for the end of the water invasion.
