On November 21, 2024, the Palace of the Republic in Minsk hosted a solemn event on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the public association «Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired».
The guests of honor in the hall included: Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Republican Interdepartmental Council on the Rights of the Disabled Igor Petrishenko; Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin; Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Belarus Natalia Pavlyuchenko; Chairman of the Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs of the House of Representatives Irina Kostevich; Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Sergei Khomenko; Chairman of the public association «Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor Petrishenko emphasized in his congratulatory message that the 100th anniversary is an important milestone: — «With their vitality, purposefulness in training, mastering professions, self-realization, the members of the association demonstrate great strength of will, human spirit, show how to work and study. The President of the Republic of Belarus has expressed gratitude to the public association «Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired» for its significant contribution to social and labor rehabilitation and promotion of an accessible environment for people with visual disabilities, development of the Paralympic movement. Diplomas of the Council of Ministers were also awarded.
In his welcoming speech, Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Veniamin noted that people with vision problems find in our society the use of their talents, develop in sports, culture, get skills in the IT sphere. «God's mysteries are incomprehensible to us: why people are sometimes born blind or have vision limitations, — emphasized the Patriarchal Exarch.But, undoubtedly, those who have full health, looking at the courage and determination of people who are deprived of this opportunity, are motivated to do many things: not to be discouraged and persevere, and to be compassionate and supportive of others.
The Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired consists of about 9000 visually impaired people. Every fourth visually impaired person living in Belarus is a member of the Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired. The total number of employees at the enterprises of the Belarusian Association of Visually Impaired Persons is more than 3000 people, including 1700 disabled persons. The assortment of products of unitary enterprises exceeds 3500 items.
